who is maicamero?

My name is Maika — or Mari Carmen — and I’m a tour guide in Granada and the surrounding area.

And I love my job. Why? Because I love showing people new places and helping them have an experience that goes far beyond names and dates — full of curiosities, legends, and other little pieces of knowledge that help you understand not just the place itself, but the wider area around it too.

And through my years of experience, I can say that is not only about me, it is about you and all the experiences you share, making the tour even richer. 

If I had to point out what makes my tours special, I’d say it’s the enthusiasm and passion I still feel for my work and for this land, along with everything that you bring to it. It is not only a tour, this is time made yours.

Do you like this photo? I love it, and it’s not just because of its colours, or because when I took it, I was looking at the ladybird and the ladybird was looking back at me.

I love this photo because it’s of an insect; I love insects and arachnids, and I love it because we don’t usually stop to look at them and understand them. And they remind me of the work of a tour guide.

As a guide, I’m constantly learning and discovering new things about my workplace – whether it’s routes or monuments – so that when visitors come, I can tell them what makes these places so special, and help them see them in a different light, enjoy them and appreciate them.

  • My hometown is Alcalá la Real, in Jaen, really closed to Granada. I would love to show this town to the world, because it worths it. The fortress, the gastronomy, the different hikes…Sure, it is not Granada and the Alhambra, but it is a peaceful place with a lovely landscape and a breathtaking history.
