What to say about this place? First of all, maybe you see a castle in it. But it is much more. It is a fortress, it is the former city, where Alcalá la Real was born, and it was a border between realms.
Alcalá la Real, in the middle of two big cities, Granada and Córdoba, has been the witness of the constant conflict, but also the many years of peace, and market.
An important part of its history, an underground gallery which connects the actual gardens of the fortress, to the inside of it. The most important space in order to conquer the fortress, because it had the most important element for a city under siege: water.
...to the actual town
From the insides of the fortress, and after the Castilian conquest, the people didn’t want to live in a closed fortress anymore. They started to move to the plain, the centre of the actual town, where there was everything to live. And what they where looking for, more space to live.
Now you can see different churches, a beautiful park, and a history beneath its streets.
